Background and Achievements:
I taught myself screenwriting software and researched narrative structure to write this feature length Dramedy film, inspired by my own insecurities post-high school as a washed up athlete, my experience growing up with an older brother through life’s changing seasons, and my love for Nashville - a city my family moved to when I went to college, and was just starting to explore!
This feature won the $10,000 Holle Award for Excellence in Screenwriting- the top honor at the University of Alabama for achievements in Creativity and Communications, and was used to teach screenwriting courses in future school years.
Summary:
"Merry Chasers" is a comedy script centered on Kirby McGinty and Ross Nguyen, two former high school classmates who find themselves stuck in stagnant adult lives in Nashville eight years after being voted "Most Likely to Succeed". Kirby is a disgruntled tour guide for a pedal tavern, while Ross is a safety-obsessed, desk-bound employee for the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
After the highly cynical Kirby is blindsided by her older brother’s decision to propose to his girlfriend after a few months, she makes the impulsive decision to steal the ring- which backfires when she loses it in a Nashville traffic collision. Meanwhile, Ross is pressured by his boss to prove his worth by investigating an underground scooter gang causing chaos in the city.
Brought together by their their desperate searches and their newfound adult fears, the unlikely duo is forced to team up over a chaotic, heist-filled, honky tonking night in Nashville -and may just end up finding their confidence back along the way.
